Pentagon Awards $7.6 Billion DEOS Cloud Contract
The contract will help the Defense Department modernize several legacy IT systems by moving them into the commercial cloud, including its enterprise email, portal and collaboration systems.

The Defense Department’s other major commercial cloud contract — the one not named JEDI — has been awarded.
The DOD and General Services Administration announced on Aug. 29 that they awarded the potentially $7.6 billion Defense Enterprise Office Solutions (DEOS) cloud contract to a team led by CSRA, now known as General Dynamics IT, which partnered with partnering with Dell Marketing LP and Minburn Technology Group LLC.
While JEDI (short for Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure) will support the DOD’s shift to commercial Infrastructure as a Service and Platform as a Service cloud offerings, DEOS is designed to modernize the Pentagon’s productivity tools, such as word processing and spreadsheets, email, collaboration, file sharing, and storage. Those services will be run on Microsoft’s Office 365 platform. DEOS will replace DOD IT office applications with a standard, cloud-based solution across all military services.
“DOD’s cloud strategy includes both general purpose and fit-for-purpose clouds. DEOS is a great example of a fit-for-purpose cloud that supports our multi-cloud strategy,” DOD CIO Dana Deasy said in a statement. “DEOS will streamline our use of cloud email and collaborative tools while enhancing cybersecurity and information sharing based on standardized needs and market offerings.”
The Marine Corps will conduct a pilot program with DEOS, and will be testing capabilities in disconnected, degraded, intermittent and low bandwidth, or DDIL, environments.
