Under the Obama administration's modernization initiative, early adopters such as the Defense Information Systems Agency and NASA have built private clouds to test and deploy new applications and computing power quickly and affordably, and scale as needed.
Using power management tools for monitoring data center equipment such as UPS devices and power distribution units gives IT departments more granular control over energy use and related costs, as well as insight into environmental conditions.
Intended to help administrators improve data center efficiency, PUE is the ratio of total power into the data center to power used by IT. A rating below 2 is highly effective; above 3, and there are bigger problems than the IT gear.
