What to Expect at the 2013 Mobile Work Exchange Town Hall

Federal leaders explore the technology and policy behind successful mobile strategies.

As the federal government continues to push the Digital Government Strategy and telework, agencies are forced to dig into the technology and policy that power remote work. There to help: The Mobile Work Exchange, which is turning mobility into a science that it calls “Mobilology.”

Federal leaders will attempt to answer a number of tough questions at the Mobile Work Exchange’s Fall 2013 Town Hall Meeting on September 12. Can employees use government-owned devices for personal computing? Can employee-owned devices be used for work? Where is sensitive data being stored and how is it being protected? The questions are complex, but some agencies are finding answers.

As noted in FedTech’s coverage of the Spring 2013 Town Hall, telework is more about policy and communication than technology. “Telework is all about leadership,” FEMA Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Tonya Schreiber noted in her presentation.

While workforce buy-in is important, so is a secure infrastructure. Without the right hardware and software, agencies could be putting data at risk. To truly leverage mobile technology, agencies have to commit to a secure infrastructure, National Institute of Standards and Technology Fellow Ron Ross told attendees. This event will expand on these topics with depth and expertise from leaders in the field.

On tap to address mobility and telework pain points are a panel of well-regarded federal CIOs and technology leaders. Several key presenters are listed below; for the full schedule, check out the Mobile Work Exchange website.
